Description

Available now is this 1972 Ford Pinto hatchback dressed in all red with black interior. This Pinto is a survivor and is in overall fair condition inside and out. This Pinto sits on Crager wheels all around. Although this Pinto does run and drive well, it should be considered a driving project that would need some TLC before becoming a reliable driver.

More information on the model year 1972 Ford Pinto:
The Ford Pinto was a subcompact car produced by the Ford Motor Company between 1971 and 1980. The 1972 Ford Pinto was the second year of production for the model.

The Pinto was marketed as an affordable and fuel-efficient car, but it gained notoriety for a design flaw that made it susceptible to fires in rear-end collisions. The location of the fuel tank behind the rear axle and the use of a plastic filler neck made the Pinto more likely to catch fire if hit from behind.

In 1978, a court case revealed that Ford had done a cost-benefit analysis to determine the cost of recalling the defective Pintos versus the cost of paying off potential lawsuits. The company determined that it would be cheaper to pay off lawsuits than to recall the cars. This scandal led to changes in product liability laws and increased scrutiny of corporate responsibility.

Despite its negative reputation, the Pinto was popular in its time, with over 3 million sold in its ten-year production run. The 1972 Ford Pinto was available in several body styles, including a two-door sedan, a three-door hatchback, and a two-door station wagon. It was powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine and had a four-speed manual transmission as standard, with an automatic transmission available as an option.
